The Municipal Top 10: Top 10 coldest cities in the United States
January is the coldest month of the year for most of the United States; let the vying for the coldest city and one-day snowfall records commence.
But according to the data, which cities are actually the coldest ones?
In order to make a determination, earlier this year the website RedFin consulted the 2020 Census, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Centers for Environmental Information, and the U.S. Climate Normals database and looked at the lowest average annual temperature of cities with a population of 875,000 or more.
Using the average annual temperature averaged the result for cities that maybe saw even colder temperatures during the winter but had high temperatures in the summer. Using this method, the company came up with a list of the top 10 coldest cities in the country.
These cities may be worth avoiding during the winter for those who can’t handle the cold, but hardy hikers and dedicated skiers may want to make plans to visit soon. Either way, bundle up.
