KANSAS CITY, MO. — The American Public Works Association (APWA) announced today that Gary Lee Moore, City Engineer of the City of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). Moore was appointed to the eleven–member Board of Directors by APWA President Larry Stevens, PE, PWLF.

“APWA is pleased that Gary has accepted the appointment to serve a three-year term on the ISI
Board. We know he will be an effective spokesperson for the public interest and for sustainable
communities,” said Stevens. “Gary’s leadership has been key to transforming Los Angeles into the
world’s most livable city. We are thrilled to have him.”

Moore is responsible for the design and construction of the city’s network of public infrastructure
including management of voter-approved public bond funds and government programs that serve
millions of residents and businesses. He has more than 29 years of public service and currently
oversees 802 employees with 409 active projects. Since beginning his tenure as City Engineer in
2003, Moore has been responsible for the completion of projects totally more than $5.2 billion. He
has also received numerous awards and honors recognizing his dedication to public service and the field of engineering.

Moore graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, and completed the UCLA Anderson School of Management’s Executive Organizational Leadership Program. He is a registered Professional Civil and Mechanical Engineer in California, and has authored and co-authored many research papers and presented work at a wide variety of professional conferences.

APWA is one of the three national organizations that co-founded ISI and is dedicated to working with public and private owners, designers, contractors and materials/equipment manufacturers and suppliers, to forge a new vision for sustainable infrastructure through the use of the new ISI Envision™ rating system and other initiatives.

Envision™ is the product of a joint collaboration between ISI, which was co-founded by APWA, ASCE, and ACEC, and the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. In 2012, ISI Envision™ was launched as a new comprehensive sustainable infrastructure system to assist planners, designers, owners and builders to plan, construct, operate and rate infrastructure to increasing levels of sustainability and resource efficiency.
