Icom Showcases Interoperable Two-Way Radio Solutions at APCO 2014
Kirkland, Wash. — Icom America, a leading two-way radio manufacturer, is attending the 2014 APCO Conference and Expo organized by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO International). The event will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans from August 3-6. Icom will be showing interoperable radio solutions at booth #1741 during exhibit hall hours on August 4-5.
APCO 2014 marks the event’s 80th year of engaging public safety officials, vendors and industry professionals. This year also celebrates the 25-year anniversary of Project 25 (P25), a user-driven standard for the design and manufacturing of interoperable digital two-way communications products. P25 focuses on interoperability, competition in system life-cycle procurements, graceful migration (backward and forward), spectrum efficiency and user-friendly equipment. Icom America is committed to these P25 objectives and is a member of the Project 25 Technology Interest Group (PTIG). For more information, please visit www.project25.org.
Icom America will be exhibiting complete P25 end-to-end systems and subscriber units at APCO 2014, including the FR9010 Series digital repeater, the F9011 Series handheld and the F9511 Series mobile. The subscriber units operate multi-mode P25 trunking, P25 conventional and analog. Additionally, the F9011 Series and F9511 Series have been certified under the Compliance Assessment Program (CAP), which ensures P25 interoperability with radios from other compliant manufacturers. Results from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognized test laboratories can be obtained on the DHS online Knowledge Base:

“Icom P25 radios and systems are deployed across the country, providing critical communications for communities large and small,” says Chris Lougee, Icom America Vice President. Other P25 radio features include a full line of public safety accessories, AES/DES encryption options and compatibility with various third-party products.
Icom will also be showcasing the Icom Digital Advanced System, commonly known as IDAS™. The communications system offers 6.25 kHz efficiency technology and features 15-bit digital encryption, flexible installation and advanced digital features. While the Icom P25 technology is best for public safety, IDAS provides a robust platform for non-first responders (e.g. public service).
