Delwin Smeal Set to Retire
Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. today announced Delwin Smeal, company president, plans to retire effective September 1, 2013. Delwin has worked for the company for 47 years including the past 20 as president of the organization. “Del has given his whole adult life to our company and our customers,” said Rod Cerny, Board Chair, “he has earned the opportunity to enjoy retirement with Vicki. We all wish them the best.”
Cerny also announced the hiring of a new company president and two promotions. Mark Denniston Huber will join the company as president and will be leading a management team with over 400 years of collective industry experience. Huber previously was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Omaha based PayFlex Systems USA, Inc. He serves on boards of companies in the banking, healthcare, and recycling industries in addition to numerous civic organizations.
Jeff Hunke, a 26 year veteran of the company has been named Chief Operating Officer. Hunke has headed the company’s sales efforts for several years and has played a significant role in product design and production processes over the years. “Jeff’s industry expertise and reputation make him the right person to lead our manufacturing efforts. He understands the needs of our customers and the challenges faced by our employees. It is a great combination that will help us move forward in the industry. I look forward to working with him,” said Huber in making the promotion announcement.
Jeff Wegner has been promoted to Vice President of Sales. He has been an employee in our Sales Department for the past 20 years, the last 12 as a Regional Sales Director. Hunke, who previously held the position said, “Jeff has really evolved into this position taking on more responsibility every year. It was an easy choice to name him VP of Sales. He is the right man for the job.”
Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. is among the top 10 manufacturers of fire trucks in the United States. Based in Snyder, Nebraska, the company has been producing fire trucks for fifty years. The company also operates a plant in Neligh, Nebraska and is recognized as one of the best employers in Northeast Nebraska. The company has customers throughout the United States and Canada.
