Milwaukee, WI Company Receives ATSSA 2013 Innovation Award
Milwaukee–Mar. 21, 2013: A Brown Deer, WI company committed to advancing roadway safety was one of three who were recently awarded prestigious American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) “2013 Innovation Awards” for its creative new product used on America’s roadways. The three winners were chosen from a field of 22 companies competing for the awards.
Winners were selected by a team of judges that included roadway engineers and safety experts who evaluated products and services during ATSSA’s 43rd Annual Convention and Traffic Expo. Since 1969, ATSSA’s Traffic Expo has been the largest roadway safety exposition and convention of its kind in North America, featuring the latest in roadway safety products and services that help save lives on roadways.
Awarded second place, TAPCO’s Dynamic, Flooded Road Warning System provides drivers advanced warning of flooded road. The system employs a combination of technologies including LED signage, water detection, solar power, and wireless communication to alert motorists approaching water-covered roads. When the system’s sensor detects water rising to an unsafe level, the BlinkerSign® LEDs instantly begin to flash, warning approaching drivers that the road ahead is flooded, allowing them to change their course. This can help to prevent stall-outs and traffic back-ups that cause crashes, injuries and even fatalities.
ATSSA members manufacture and install the various roadway safety devices that motorists pass by or utilize every day on America’s roadways. Many of these safety products are taken for granted as motorists pass them, including guardrails, bright reflective signs, roadway striping, lighting, reflective garments and work zone safety equipment.
